Running a server

Server settings, channels, roles and permissions, moderation and commands.

The owner

The first account that enters a brand-new server becomes its owner: they have every right, can't be kicked, and a crown appears next to their name. So enter your server as soon as it's installed.

Settings are in the server menu (click its name at the top left) → Server settings. Everyone only sees the tabs their role lets them use.

Server settings

TabContent
GeneralServer name, icon, banner and color.
WelcomeWelcome window for newcomers, and an arrival message in a channel.
Access and securityOpen or close sign-ups, and an entry password asked of new members.
CommunityPublic server (shown in the Community directory) or private; info card: description, category, language, region, keywords.
RolesColors, hierarchy and permissions.
MembersMember list, roles, bans (with Unban).
LogsThe log: who changed what on the server (channels, roles, moderation, sign-ins…), with filters.

To bring your friends over: server menu → Invite your friends. A ready-made message is copied: the link to download the app, the server address and, if there is one, a reminder of the entry password.

Channels and categories

The + button next to a category creates a text or voice channel. Right-clicking a channel (or its options) lets you rename it, give it a topic, move it, delete it and, for a voice channel, choose its audio profile or protect it with a password.

The Announcements feed exists on every server; only roles with “Post announcements” can write in it.

Roles and permissions

Each member has one or more roles. A role has a color, a place in the hierarchy (you only manage roles placed below your own), can be shown separately in the member list, and grants permissions:

GroupPermissions
ManagementAdministrator (everything, no restriction), Manage server, Manage roles, Manage channels, View logs, Manage invites, Create invites
ModerationKick members, Ban members, Manage messages, Pin messages, Mute members, Move and disconnect
ChatSend messages, Attach files, Add reactions, Create threads, Create polls, Mention @everyone, Post announcements, Create events, Send pokes
Voice and videoConnect to voice, Speak, Turn on camera, Share your screen, Share PC sound (and the allowed camera and sharing qualities)
Administrator grants absolutely every right: only give it to people you trust.

Moderation

Right-click a member (in the list or in voice) to, depending on your permissions: Mute them in voice, Move them to another channel, Disconnect from voice, Kick (they can come back) or Ban (they can't reconnect until you unban them).

The same actions exist as commands, typed in a text channel:

CommandEffect
/clear duration:7dDeletes messages older than a duration (30m, 24h, 7d, 2w), or those from the last few hours, optionally from a single member.
/purgeDeletes a member's latest messages in the channel (20 by default, 200 max).
/kick, /banKicks or bans a member.
/muteMutes or unmutes a member's mic in voice.
/topicChanges the channel topic.

All these actions are recorded in the Logs tab of the server settings.
