Using Voxsen

Channels, messages, files, threads, announcements, events, direct messages and friends.

The interface

  • On the left: the server, its text and voice channels (with who is in voice), the Private tab, and at the bottom your profile, mic and deafen buttons.
  • In the middle: tabs for the open channel, Announcements, Threads, Events and Files.
  • On the right: members, sorted by role, with their status (online, in voice, in game…). Clicking a member opens their profile card.
  • At the top: search (Ctrl + K), the Community (compass) and notifications (bell).

Writing messages

The message box formats as you type: select some text to make it bold, italic, code… or use the shortcuts:

EffectShortcut or syntax
BoldCtrl + B or **text**
ItalicCtrl + I or *text*
Code / code block`code` / ``` over several lines
Quote> text at the start of a line
Spoiler (hidden until clicked)||text||
Mention someone@username (or @everyone if you're allowed to)
Link a channel#channel

Hover over a message to react with an emoji, reply, edit it (your own) or pin it. Pinned messages are found with the pin icon at the top of the channel. Tip: Shift + click on the trash can deletes without asking for confirmation.

Images and files

In a message: drag and drop files into the conversation, paste an image (Ctrl + V) or use the + button. The maximum size per file is set by the server (50 MB by default) and is shown in the upload window.

The Files page is a file drop shared by the whole server, with no size limit by default: perfect for videos, archives or documents. When uploading, choose whether the file is kept forever or deleted automatically (after 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 3 months or 1 year). Filter by type (images, videos, audio, documents) or search by name.

Files can be accessed by anyone who knows their link (random addresses that can't be guessed). Don't drop truly confidential documents there.

Threads, announcements and events

Threads

A thread is a topic with a title and its replies, so a discussion doesn't get lost in the general channel: “Who's bringing what to the LAN?”, “Your mic tips”… Threads tab → New thread.

Announcements

Announcements are the server's important news, laid out nicely (headings, colors, images, tables). Only members with the “Publish announcements” permission can write them. An unread announcement opens first.

Events

The shared calendar (Events tab) lists game nights, tournaments, meetings… Click I'm in to be counted and reminded. Each event can have a color, a location (a voice channel or a real place) and times.

Polls and commands

Type / in a text channel to see the commands you can use:

CommandWhat it does
/pollCreates a poll: multiple answers, anonymous votes, final vote, results shown after voting, duration.
/helpLists the commands available to you in this channel.
/pingShows latency and the status of the services.
/serverinfo, /userinfoInformation about the server or a member.

Moderation commands (/clear, /purge, /kick, /ban, /mute…) are described in Running a server.

Direct messages and friends

The Private tab gathers your one-on-one conversations. To open one: click a member → Send a message, or look them up with Find a member.

The Friends page (in Private) lists your friends on the server, requests received and sent, and blocked members. Add a friend from their profile card (Add friend). Blocking a member stops them from messaging you privately, “poking” you and sending you a friend request; their messages are collapsed in channels.

A poke (Poke 👉 on a member's card) sends them a small notification, for example to invite them to voice.

Status, activity and notifications

Click your avatar at the bottom left to pick your status: Online or Busy (others see you don't want to be disturbed), with a custom line if you like. You automatically become “away” after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Voxsen can show your activity (the game you launched, the music you're listening to): set it in Settings → Activity and privacy.

The bell at the top right gathers notifications: mentions, replies, events, role changes, announcements, moderation. Windows notifications are set in Settings → Notifications.
